has at least started getting it's makeover. Between our move, Charles taking his GED and getting ready to start college, John starting back at school, Divine being down for so long and other everyday insanities, this poor blog was in need of a makeover. It's not done yet but at least it is functional again.

As a peace offering to all of you who do visit and haven't found a single thing new, I am posting this freebie (which is only about 3 months late lol)

A Month in review

We are still having a few issues over at Divine Digital with the reintroduction of the Boutique. Hopefully it will all be squared away soon. I can't wait to put all of my new designs up in the boutique.

I am grouping a lot of these posts together since we don't have internet at home yet (hopefully Monday if they were right ;) ) I have been going through my photos as well so that I can match them up with my daily posts.

July 17th

Hmmmm it was another day of butterfly photography but this time they spent a lot of time on the ground:

John was even able to get one to land on him ;) It was pretty cool.

They have a place in Florida called Butterfly World and it's cool for the little ones because you can walk into one area where there are tons of butterflies and they will sometimes land on you. The thing about what we have here is that they don't have to interact, everything is wide open and yet they will land on you if you are patient enough ;)

Alex was at work and the boys spent almost the entire day playing XBOX360 together. As for me I was happy listening to them play their games and baking. I made one large Banana Bundt bread, 6 banana bread cupcakes with crumb topping and one large bannana crumb muffin for Alex for his dessert. For dinner I made chicken cutlets, squash and alfredo noodles. My back feels like it is going to break but it was worth it.

July 16th

After a quick run to the library we went home, it was mainly Butterfly photography and just hanging around the house today. John wanted to go out but it started pouring so he was stuck here. I finally got through the whole telephone and internet mess and hopefully we will have our internet hooked up by the 26th. Thanks to Tracy at AT&T we were able to get it all straightened out and set up. Fridays are leftover night so it was a quick clean up thankfully.

July 15th

After court (we went on behalf of a friend of ours) we grabbed John and took a run into Dickson to get some bills paid and let him trade in his old games for some new ones. I took Charles' games for him and he finally got God of War 3. We grabbed some cold cuts and decent Italian Bread for Dinner. We haven't had those in awhile so it really hit the spot. I went outside to do some more Butterfly photography and Alex & John soon followed. John climbed the tree again to get some hopefully better and closer shots. There were a few hummingbirds starting to make their way over as it was close to dusk but we couldn't seem to get any shots of them out in the clear. What we did end up getting were a bunch of moths - we think these are those Tomatoe horn worms at maturity, who looked really cool and almost always had glowing eyes from our flash lol:

July 9th

Again there were more butterflies. This one is pretty much a loner, he comes by himself and surprisingly enough the others seem to leave him alone. The blue type and the orange spotter ones continue to battle it out and this big fellow just goes along his merry way getting whatever nectar he can.

I was able to get really close to one of the others. Close enough to touch ;) Charles was my photographer this time.

Of course he flew away rather quickly but it was fun while it lasted ;)

Apparently the text file I had set up here on Alex's laptop was incomplete - not sure what happened. I will fill the missing dates in next time. In the meantime I am uploading the images from those dates - at least the ones I have with me.

First is something I was working on for a few weeks. I have fallen in love with the whole Steampunk genre and thought it would be cool to make a kit based on it. I kept going (and am still going actually lol) and have made 3 sets of brushes (thus far) and have some ephemera for you as well ;)

Wow, it's been awhile. So sorry but I have been up to my ears with work and home life. They were clashing like Titans the past few months but they have come to a mutual agreement now and I am free to move about the cabin lol. How's that for a group of varied metaphors? LOL

Here is what's new. I have added a few of my handmade jewelry items to my Etsy Shoppe ;)

I have a few more items which I need to get photos of so that I can put them up. Hopefully they will go up today. Actually I have this one but I haven't thought of a name for it yet.

Any suggestions? It's made from Chalcedony, Aventurine & Sterling Silver & Tibetan Silver. Maybe I should name it Chelsea?

Can I show you some new and wonderful photos I have taken?
No, no & no. Well, ok maybe I could, but then I wouldn't be able to do any of the things I mentioned. I am so dis-organized it's not even funny. I need someone to take me by the hand and help me!! I don't know whether it is the ADHD, middle age or what but I am so incredibly scattered that it's amazing I remember to breathe.

I have reconnected with so many of my 'old' friends, some whom I have known since I was 10, these are friends that I would fight to the end for. Friends who always have a special place in my heart no matter how many years go by before we find each other again, and I haven't had the time to call even one of them. So for Mark, who spent endless hours with me, sleeping over each other's houses, double dating and just being the best friend in the world - For Kathe, who was always sweet to me and jumped on my arresting officers back when he tried to push me into the cop car during the walk out in High School (story for another time) LOL, For Lorraine, who was always my friend no matter how annoying & crazy I was and who was there in the hospital for my first son's birth - and for MaryEllen who showed me that you can be a Lady, intelligent and extremely funny all at the same time - I miss & love you all and think of you all the time. I am just .... me. Disorganized and buried under things to do. There are so many others whom I would love to mention but I don't have enough time and space here to list everyone lol.

On the flip side of this situation is the fact that all my hard work is paying off. Charles is doing well with his studying for the GED. For those of you who don't know he is trying to get out of High School early. He had gotten special permission from the Superintendent to take the GED once he turns 17 next month. Once he passes it he will be going for College Classes for computers so that he can get some letters added after his name lol. He is a natural when it comes to computers, already into serious programming etc but he knows that in order to secure a good job he will need his degree. I am sad that he won't be having a normal graduation ceremony but glad and proud that he is driven to move ahead faster and go for what he wants.

Both of my stores are coming together although I have not had any sales at Etsy yet :( I am working on two designs right now for bracelets and am waiting for some items I ordered to come in so that I can work on 3 others that I have in my head. Disorganized, disorganized. Alex and I went to Wal-Mart & Office Depot a few weeks ago and bought several 'designer' boxes so that I could organize all of my beads, wires, charms etc and he even made some dividers for them. Alas, I still haven't figured out what is comfortable for me. I also have been fighting the urge to decorate these little boxes lol. Maybe I should just let myself go and do it, it might help the juices flow.

So right now it's Saturday and I got a delivery from China of over 1,000 items. Nope, not exaggerating over 1,000. The reason for that is because some of the packs I got contain 300 items while most contain around 40, so it's not as bad as it would seem but it will definitely keep me busy for awhile. Poor Alex will be taking pics forever lol. He has been trying to help me out by taking all of the photos so I could concentrate on listing, pricing and advertising. Aside from my boys, he is the best thing that ever happened to me and I thank God everyday for him.

Snow!

Well I heard the word snow yesterday and considering I really need to get my behind out of my chair and get a little exercise I managed to convince Alex & Charles to take a walk. As you can see in this photo, the snow was just starting to fall when we went out at around 4pm yesterday.

Charles decided that it was too cold for him and ran back to the house - literally ran lol:

After dinner we heard a knock at the back door. Apparently even the natives were having a hard time coping with the snow:

This morning we awoke to no internet and a lot more snow:

Those are just a couple of shots from the back door lol. I have not yet ventured outside. I will be going out later though as I want to get a shot of the ponds, they look awesome with the snow and ice.

Alex had to go outside with a hair dryer and heat up our internet dish lol. It was a bit frozen over and we couldn't get on.

Well, that is all for now, I am hoping that this weather doesn't hinder things too badly. Small town, no ice trucks, no plows (which makes no sense to me since this is farm country lol) and the mail will be slower than the proverbial molasses in winter. Hopefully we won't lose internet.

I need to go and get more items into my eBay store and finish up a mini kit I have been working on ;) Have a great day and stay warm!

First off I would like to say Happy New year to all of you. It was fairly quiet here for us thankfully and I hope the year goes as nicely as the night had.

I had been complaining for the last week because my deliveries from China were stuck in customs and what not, taking forever and I was getting them in dribs and drabs. Uh huh, until yesterday when I got about 800 beads! LOL Poor, sweet Alex staywed up until the wee hours of the morning helping me take the photos of a lot of them (he did most of them) and I have been up through the day trying to get them categorized into the spreadsheet and listed in my eBay store. Here is a preview of a bunch of them which are either already in or will be in the next few hours:

I only have one problem now. See that little red teardrop bead on the top left side? It's not really red. It's a golden brown color, I don't know why it keeps coming out red, I was looking through the beads repeatedly thinking that I had misplaced them. And actually I hadn't noticed it till I started this post - a few hours ago lol.

Now before you roll your eyes, this isn't going to be about what you think it is. It has nothing to do with artistic ability or the scores of villains who take our work and give it away for free. No this is about something that hit me smack dab in the face these past few weeks as I decided to change my designing name and blog. It's a process that you would think was simple enough right? WRONG, wrong & WRONG. I don't think that any designer truly realizes how much they do or how much they have probably learned since delving into the world of digi-scrap. Firstly, if you are just jumping in and didn't have the benefit of some sort of formal graphics training, you need to know that all Scrapbooking kits are created at 300 dpi and that elements are png and papers are jpg - MOST of the time. If you don't know what the 3 letter abbreviations mean you will have to learn that too. Learn graphics programs from Photoshop or PSP and maybe some texture programs, plugins, 3D programs, maybe you draw or sketch which is cool but do you have your tablet to draw with or are you drawing/scanning/extracting? Do you know how to use - nay - do you know what styles, actions, gradients or scripts etc are? Do you know how to install and use them? Do you know what the differences between copyrighted - share-alike - donation - open source and a ton of other terms are? There is a lot more to know but I am going to forego all of that because - for my needs - I have already given you a good enough idea of the scope for the designing part.

Now let's move onto the fun things. It is a business, plain & simple. I don't care how many people tell you that it isn't a job - it's a hobby they have NO CLUE what they are talking about. I had someone tell me that once and I started throwing the terminology at them and even went as far as to give them a pen & paper and said - here draw something. I want you to get 5 designs from your head to the paper - for the papers then draw 5 different objects/elements that you could use with those papers - from your head to the paper. Then I want you to do the preview, label each individual file, zip it up and upload it to your boutique. then you can take that same file and place it into your boutique with the correct meta tags, a name, price and - oh yes - a description. Because not only do you have to come up with a unique name - something catchy - but you have to give a description that will make people want to look at it again. OK wow that's great you have your kit in the store (this person's eyes had already started to glaze over by this time lol) now how do you let people know it's there? Well heck, they aren't going to just sit up one day and say to themselves "Gee I think there is a designer out there whose name is ----- and I want to see their new designs!" So now let's go ahead and advertise our little kit. Well we will just switch gears now from Designer, to Web Programmer to being a Marketer. We need to come up with a pitch for our wonderful little kit and an ad (more designing) OK let's say we breeze through the ad where do we put it? How many places are there for you to advertise. Even if the marketing fairy comes along and gives you a list of all the best places to post your ad there is still a ton of stuff for you to find out (I had a lot of help from my good friends Shannon Fahrnback & Carla Ware LOVE YOU GALS!) What is the largest image you can post? Do you have to pay to be able to post at these sites? Are some groups better to post at than others? And whoops - back to IT - what is html and how do I write it? Is using a href the same as img src? If I can't upload my image directly to the site where I am posting my ad then where do I upload it to? How do I get the image to show up where I want the ad to be? Are there only certain days when ads are allowed to be placed? How often should I place an ad? Whoops did I forget about my prospective customers on the other side of the world.... will they see my ad or will it get buried under all the others coming in after mine? Once again I will give you a free pass and say that this has all been worked out. Now what?

Do you have blinkies? Those little squirming, molding, folding minuscule demons from Hades that look oh so cute but will make their creator lose their minds trying to make them. FREE PASS you have paid someone to make one for you - but you don't want them deciding what your style is like so you still need to come up with some sort of an idea as to how you want it done. But ehh ok I gave you the free pass - blinkie done. How does your blog look? What's a Blog? Ha! Now you are right back to the beginning Designer/Web Programmer/Marketer. Design your Blog, Code your Blog and Market your blog. You want people to come to your blog to see all of your wonderful creativity, to keep in touch with your fans/followers, and because it will show people what beauties you are offering them this week! It is your home.

After all is said & done what do we have?

We know how to design and package our creations in the proper dimensions
We know how to massage our design files & use an ftp program to put our designs onto the great wide web
We know how to use the appropriate program/shopping cart system for EACH of our Boutiques
We handle the previews, descriptions & other marketing for our designs
We handle the appropriate coding for putting our designs out there for the public to see (and hopefully purchase)
We handle the marketing of ourselves via blogs, blinkies, freebies, chats etc.

Of course I didn't even touch on the topic of chats/freebies, nor did I get into the whole Paypal process, contract process, whether or not you should be exclusive or spread yourself out to more than one site. Researching & keeping up on the latest trends and trying to stay one step ahead. I also didn't even get into the numerous designers who are WAHMs We juggle all of this plus our family.

So, the next time someone looks at you and scoffs at your career choice do what I did. Look them in the eye, raise one eyebrow and challenge them to even know half of what you are talking about (My favorite quote from Live Free or Die Hard - If that guy knew half of what I know his fuzzy little head would explode) Then remember that home based business are multiplying exponentially and soon enough we will be the ones scoffing at those who leave their homes to go to work ;)

Well since this desktop was created using my new kit "Coffee House" I decided to add it here as well. The same rules apply here as they did on my old blog. First NO FILE SHARING, send people here to get the files if you think they would like them. Secondly you can just click on the image to be taken to your download ;) Lastly, remember a little LOVE goes a long way.

Resource List

I have decided to put my resource list here on my blog and only include a link to it in my designs. The reason for this decision is that many times resource creators will change their TOU and it can be difficult to keep up with all of the changes. This way as I acquire a new resource I can post it here (hopefully immediately) and not have to worry about updating all of my designs individually. I hope this is acceptable to everyone involved. This list will be updated regularly.
